Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing strategy in which a product or service is promoted by an individual (the affiliate), and a commission is earned for driving traffic or sales to the merchant’s website through a unique affiliate link. This model is widely used across various online platforms, such as blogs, social media, email newsletters, and websites.

Join an Affiliate Program: An affiliate program is joined by affiliates, which is offered by a company or product owner. These programs are offered by many major retailers (such as Amazon, Shopify, etc.), and others can be found across various niches.

Get a Unique Affiliate Link: Once approved, a unique tracking link is provided to affiliates, which directs users to the merchant’s website.

Promote Products/Services: Products or services are promoted by affiliates using blogs, social media, videos, or other channels. The affiliate link is incorporated into these promotions.

Earn Commissions: A commission is earned by the affiliate when someone clicks on the affiliate link and makes a purchase or takes an action (like signing up for a service). The commission is typically a percentage of the sale price.

Types of Affiliate Marketing Models:

  • Pay-per-sale (PPS): A commission is earned by the affiliate only when a sale is made.
  • Pay-per-click (PPC): Money is earned by affiliates when users click on the affiliate link, regardless of whether a purchase is made.
  • Pay-per-lead (PPL): Payment is made to affiliates when a lead is generated (e.g., when a person signs up for a trial or fills out a contact form).

For Affiliates:

One of the key benefits of affiliate marketing is its low startup costs. Affiliates don’t need to create or manage their own products or services, making it an accessible opportunity. All that’s needed is a platform—whether it’s a website, blog, or social media account—and marketing skills to get started. The model also offers passive income potential: once content is created and affiliate links are placed, they can continue to generate income as people click and make purchases over time. In addition, flexibility is a major advantage, as affiliates can work from anywhere and set their own hours without worrying about inventory, shipping, or customer service.
